Sexual Harassment Survivors Take To Social Media With #MeToo

It all started when actress Alyssa Milano tweeted, "If you have been sexually harassed or assaulted write 'me too' as a reply to this tweet."

That was Sunday, October 15. Now the hashtag #MeToo has gone viral. Millions of women and some men have spoken out on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms sharing their stories of sexual harassment, abuse, and assault.

The campaign was sparked by the Harvey Weinstein scandal. Several actresses and other women have come forward with allegations of sexual harassment, assault, and rape against the film producer. Since the news came out, Weinstein has been fired from The Weinstein Company.

The "Me Too" online movement is shedding light on an important topic: How common sexual harassment, abuse, and assault are in our society. Millions of women are posting #MeToo and many are sharing their stories online.

Coming forward and speaking out can be a difficult thing to do. Sharing stories can be an effective way to start conversations and shine light on such an important issue.

Remember: Sexual harassment is more than just a hashtag. Sexual harassment and assault a reality - a reality that most women have experienced - something that still happens all the time.

When sexual harassment happens in the workplace, victims may have legal options and may be eligible for compensation. For a free consultation to discuss what has happened at your workplace, please call Bononi Law Group at 866-295-7512.
