As an employee, you know that you have certain rights. You also know that your employer could cross the line at some point. Did you know that workplace discrimination costs companies more than $60 billion every year? These costs are incurred in a variety of ways, such as through the approximately two million people who leave their job because they are being discriminated against.
Furthermore, litigation associated with workplace discrimination also costs employers a large sum of money every year. There are many types of workplace discrimination, all of which are illegal. Additionally, no form of discrimination should be taken lightly. Not only does this impact the victim, but it puts coworkers in a difficult position as well.
Despite the fact that companies large and small have non-discrimination policies in place, it is not always enough to keep trouble on the outside looking in. There is always the chance that something could go wrong, as it only takes one mistake by one person for questions of workplace discrimination to come to the forefront.
You don’t have to fully understand the costs of workplace discrimination, but you should have a basic idea of how this impacts employers. This will give you a clear understanding of just how serious this problem remains throughout the United Stated.
When people are discriminated against, regardless of the reason, they have the right to stand up and fight back. Don’t let anybody tell you that workplace discrimination is a thing of the past. Unfortunately, this remains a widespread concern in all industries throughout the U.S.
