Sexual harassment case settled for $820,000 by Army

A sexual harassment lawsuit filed in 2014 against the U.S. Army has come to an end. The two parties have agreed to a settlement, which includes the plaintiff receiving $820,000.

According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff was a trainee for the Army's military police while at the Presidio of Monterey. Her supervisor was a sergeant who had continuously harassed her through text messages. Some of those text messages included nude photos of the sergeant. The woman said in her lawsuit that she received hundreds of the messages at all hours of the day.

The woman reported the sergeant's activity. Her attorney provided a statement in which the woman said, "Rather than support me as the trainee officer that had been continuously harassed, the Army chose to set me up for termination while at the same time finding my harasser a new job without any repercussions for him."

The sergeant's wife was also stationed at the installation as a lieutenant. In order for the woman to report the sergeant's actions, she had to tell his wife what had occurred. The trainee, though, was terminated from the Army and according to the lawsuit, she believes it was because the sergeant was so popular.

As for the Army, it regrets what transpired, according to a spokesman. The sergeant didn't comment on the settlement.

If you or a loved one have been a victim of sexual harassment and wrongful termination, you have options. You can pursue compensation for such actions in civil court. An experienced attorney can provide you with the guidance and advice you need.
