Wrongful termination: You can fight it

Employers don't like employees that "stir the pot." In other words, having to deal with whistleblowers or employees who don't go along with a company's way of doing things might be classified as troublemakers. On the other hand, an employer also knows they must handle that employee with kid gloves because there are laws to protect employees.

Temp industries bring about inequalities in the work force

The temp industry is more than a million dollar business. Employing over 3 million employees, temp agencies are said to be one of the fastest growing businesses in the economy today. Industries such as data processing, telecommunications, construction and a variety of other jobs are finding it easier and less expensive to hire temporary employees. However, according to some, as temp agencies expand, employee discrimination is on the rise.

Survey: Women in tech industry face sexual harassment

While Silicon Valley technology firms have implemented diversity initiative, a report from NBC News says that sexual harassment is still a problem. Over 200 women were surveyed by NBC News. The results were published in a report titled "Elephant in the Valley. The author of the study was a partner at a venture capital firm and a market research consultant.

Sexual harassment is an evolving force in the workplace, and it doesn't always seem to fall easily within well-defined aspects of the law. So-called gray areas often make individual employees wary of stepping forward with complaints, but the truth is that you have a right to certain expectations in the workplace.

Family and Medical Leave Act 101

The Family and Medical Leave Act went into effect in 1993. The act is meant to give employees a way to fulfill family or health issues by taking unpaid time off work and still be able to retain their jobs. The Family Medical Leave Act allows for up 12 weeks of unpaid leave for certain situations.

Hallmark channel director suing for wrongful termination

A former Hallmark channel director for the "Home & Family" TV show was fired from his job on July 24. He believes he was wrongfully terminated for his age. Home & Family is a show that airs on weekdays on the Hallmark channel. It is a two-hour long program hosted by Cristina Ferrare and Mark Steines. The program occasionally has specials airing in primetime.
