How should you deal with discrimination during a job interview?

In today’s day and age, many people are out of work and hoping to land a job in the near future. For some people, something always gets in the way. This can include discrimination during a job interview.

For example, you could be asked an illegal question during a job interview. If this happens, and you give the “wrong” answer, it could lead to a rejection letter.

If you believe you were discriminated against, it is within your rights to contact the employer to ask if there were certain areas that you were lacking. While this doesn’t guarantee an answer, it could give you insight regarding what happened.

At some point, you may come to the conclusion that you have been discriminated against. If this happens, you need to take formal action. This often means filing a claim with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. By doing so, the employer will have to respond to the EEOC’s request with information regarding your allegations. If the EEOC decides that the answers are not legitimate, you may be in position to move forward with litigation or receive a settlement.

It is never easy to go through the job interview process. There is a lot of stress involved, and you never know for sure if you are going to land the job. This can be even more challenging if you feel you have been discriminated against.

Knowing how to deal with discrimination during a job interview is only half the battle. If you are a victim of this conduct, you then need to take formal steps towards a resolution.
