Remember these points if you are sexually harassed

On Behalf of | Oct 22, 2015 | Sexual Harassment

If you are sexually harassed in the workplace, it can turn your life upside down. Not only do you worry about what will happen at work, but this can also take a toll on your overall mental state, even when you are out of the office.

There are many things you can do if you are sexually harassed at work. Here are five points to remember:

— Don’t quit. You did not do anything wrong. For this reason, you should not feel compelled to pack up and leave your job behind.

— Learn more about your company’s sexual harassment policy. This can typically be found in the employee handbook. This should provide information on how to proceed with a complaint.

— Tell the person no. The next time the person makes an advance, speak up and let them know it is the last time. Sometimes all it takes is a stern word to get your point across.

— Keep good notes. You need to keep track of every instance of sexual harassment, as this will support your claim.

— Don’t stop reporting the behavior. Just because you report sexual harassment one time, doesn’t mean you should avoid doing so if this happens again.

If you are a victim of sexual harassment in the workplace, you won’t be happy until you speak up and put this in the past. These points can help you do just that.

You have many rights as an employee, including the ability to work in a harassment-free environment. If this isn’t happening, learn about your rights and take the necessary steps.
