A former employee charged sex andThe OWN employee was hired in 2010 at the senior director level and received favorble performance evaluations. She was told she was on track to become a vice president at the network. However, when she was forced to take a medical leave during pregnancy, she was replaced by a temporary employee who assumed more and more of her duties. She alleges that she was shut out of meetings that she had previously attended. When she returned to the office in 2012 one month after giving birth to a daughter, she was told she was being laid off.
>At the time, she was encouraged to apply for the vice president position, but alleges that her boss created a fake performance review that made her previous duties seem far less senior than they actually were. She was passed over for promotion.
The plaintiff alleged that the employer took these actions because she became pregnant and required a medical leave. The charges against OWN included sex discrimination, disability discrimination, failure to prevent discrimination, and wilful failure to pay wages upon termination.
