Men suffer from sexual harassment too

Everyone knows that sexual harassment laws go in both directions. It doesn't matter if the harasser is a man or a woman, and it doesn't matter if the person being harassed is a man or a woman. Sexual harassment is unlawful no matter who is being abused by this unconscionable and unprofessional behavior. That said, sometimes men need to be reminded of their rights and empowered to stand up for them.

At Bononi Law Group, we have seen a lot of different sexual harassment claims, and although most of them have involved female victims -- and we recognize that the treatment of women is something every workplace needs to be concerned about -- sometimes men suffer from sexual harassment too. However, men are more likely to stay quiet and not say anything. Like female victims who are afraid of being judged for speaking up, men may also try not to ruffle any feathers and put up with the abuse.

Sexual harassment is extremely damaging for all of its victims. It can translate into poorer job performance, low self esteem, depression and many individuals leave their jobs and lose out on their employment income because of the abuse. The first step in preventing these kinds of consequences involves recognizing when the abuse is happening and stop it in its tracks immediately.

Have you had a co-worker or managing superior demand sexual favors in exchange for a promotion or raise? Have you been forced to give sexual favors under the threat of losing your job or suffering some other kind of job-related setback? If the answer is yes, then you may want to talk with an employment law attorney no matter if you are male or female.
