Service animals in the workplace

We've previously written on the topic of workplace discrimination, and one type of discrimination that can occur in the workplace is based on disability. An employer cannot make a hiring or firing decision for a qualified worker based solely on a disability, and covered employers are expected to make some accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act that provides accessibility to disabled workers.

What are your options if you are let go from your job?

Outside of a written agreement, such as a contract, an employer in California can let an employee go without cause at any time. This is because Califormia is an at-wil employment state. However, as with anything legal, things aren't always that simple.

Family medical leave for chronic illnesses

April 11 is Parkinson's Disease International Awareness Day. Many people in the United States are somewhat familiar with Parkinson's Disease because of celebrities such as Michael J. Fox, who suffers from the disorder. It is a disease that affects the nervous system overtime, typically becoming increasingly worse. Symptoms include tremors in the hands, slow movement and stiffness, among other things.

Dealing with a wage or overtime dispute

You expect your Los Angeles employer to pay you in full and on time every month. You also expect to be compensated for any overtime that you work. Unfortunately, there are times when this does not happen. There are times when you run into some sort of trouble, such as an employer that refuses to pay overtime.
